Ukrainian Week in Britain: how students from Khmelnytskyi National University and Bangor University are building international cooperation

An online meeting was recently held between representatives of the student governments of Khmelnytskyi National University and Bangor University in Wales.

During the meeting, participants got to know each other, talked about the structure, activities, and areas of work of their student councils, and exchanged experiences in organising student life and developing university initiatives.

In addition, the parties discussed areas for further cooperation and partnership, in particular the idea of holding a "Ukrainian Week" at Bangor University, an event that will allow students to learn more about the culture, traditions, and modernity of Ukraine, as well as the activities of the student government of Khmelnytskyi National University. It is important to note that this student cooperation is developing within the framework of Khmelnytskyi National University's participation, together with Bangor University (Wales), in the nationwide initiative "Ukrainian Week in Great Britain – 2025." The initiative is being implemented within the framework of the Global Coalition of Ukrainian Studies and is held under the patronage of the First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska. That is why the partnership between student councils has become an important component of a large international educational and cultural program.

This meeting was the first step in forming a strong international partnership. Both sides are committed to further successful cooperation and are already planning follow-up meetings to discuss future projects in detail.

As part of this partnership, the student council of Khmelnytskyi National University received a very pleasant surprise—a package with gifts from their Welsh colleagues.

The package contained a variety of symbolic items that convey warmth, openness, and friendship between student communities: sweets, tea, stationery, hoodies, as well as elements of Welsh culture—a flag, the lyrics to the national anthem, a recipe for a traditional dish, and colourful postcards. A particularly valuable gift was a postcard bearing the personal signatures of members of the Bangor University Student Union.

The Bangor University Student Union also received its own gift package from Khmelnytskyi National University. Our students collected Ukrainian delicacies, souvenirs, and university merchandise for their British colleagues, and also added small symbolic gifts that introduce Ukrainian culture. This mutual exchange was a sincere gesture of support and friendship, deepening partnership ties and inspiring further joint projects.

Below you can watch the students' video message:

This mutual exchange of gifts was a wonderful confirmation of mutual respect, openness, and the sincere desire of both universities to develop student initiatives and international cooperation. We are grateful to our partners for their kindness, support, and willingness to work together to create a space of friendship and shared opportunities for the student communities of Khmelnytskyi National University and Bangor University. Cooperation between the student councils of the two universities continues, and very soon the student council of Khmelnytskyi National University will host a "Ukrainian Week" for students of Bangor University to share Ukrainian culture, traditions, and the spirit of Ukrainian student life.
