Yaroslav Yuvsechko, Associate Professor at the Department of International Communication and Political Science, participated in the Global Media and Information Literacy Week conference at the invitation of UNESCO. The event took place in Amman, the capital of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
This year's conference theme was: "New Digital Frontiers of Information: Media and Information Literacy for Information of Public Interest."
The conference included 5 plenary sessions and 13 side events, during which speakers from UNESCO, governmental and research bodies from various countries, members of the Jordanian Royal Family, and other participants from around the world discussed the transformative impact of new technologies, such as generative artificial intelligence and the new generation of digital content creators, on the production and dissemination of information of public interest. They highlighted both the opportunities and risks of this impact. Participants debated the necessity of providing information to consumers with specialised skills for identifying, evaluating, and interacting with information of public interest. As a result, the Amman Declaration on Strengthening Media and Information Literacy for Promoting Publicly Beneficial Information in the Digital Age was developed and adopted.
The Ukrainian delegation also included representatives from the National Media Literacy Project "Filter" of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine. During the panel discussion "Media and Information Literacy in Times of Crisis," they shared Ukraine's experience in countering disinformation in wartime conditions.
