During the spring semester (February–June) of the 2024–2025 academic year, third-year Computer Engineering student Sofiia Syrota successfully passed the selection process and took part in academic mobility under the Erasmus+ programme at Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas, Lithuania.

“This was my first experience participating in the Erasmus+ programme, and it turned out to be incredibly rich in amazing impressions, events, acquaintances, and new experiences. The organisation was of the highest quality. I especially want to mention the orientation days — they greatly helped me adapt to the university and the city, and also meet other students from different countries from the very first days. I took an intensive ‘Survival Lithuanian’ course and successfully passed the exam after just a week, which gave me confidence in communicating in Lithuanian. At the same time, I want to note that Kaunas is a very English-speaking city, so there were no communication problems even without knowing Lithuanian.”

The learning process was organised through email and the Moodle platform, where all materials for revision and self-study were available. During the semester, there were two exam sessions: a midterm session and a final session, with five exams in each. In case of an unsuccessful attempt, students were given a chance to retake the exam, with the highest score counted. The grading system is ten-point, with a flexible approach: in some cases, exams accounted for up to 50% of the total grade.
The material was delivered in a high-quality and engaging way, and studying in English allowed Sofiia to significantly improve her language skills. The university atmosphere was warm and friendly, with active social events, supportive professors, and open-minded students.

“I was lucky to live in a comfortable dormitory and meet students from all over the world: Saudi Arabia, Germany, Italy, France, Greece, Albania, Palestine, Spain, Brazil, Montenegro, Hong Kong, Korea, China, Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Pakistan, Turkey, Morocco, Slovakia, Poland, and many other countries.
I’m very grateful to my home university — Khmelnytskyi National University — for such an opportunity!
This experience became an important step in my personal and professional development. I highly recommend Erasmus+ to every student who wants to broaden their horizons,” shares Sofiia.
