International Horizons for KNU Students: The International Relations Office Presented New Opportunities for Academic Development

In December, a series of thematic meetings organised by the International Relations Office took place at Khmelnytskyi National University. The events focused on expanding educational horizons, academic mobility, and new projects that open doors for students to leading European and global institutions.

Oleksandra Fishchuk, a specialist at the International Relations Office, opened the meetings by emphasising the importance of international cooperation as an integral component of modern higher education. Oleksandra highlighted that global experience not only enriches knowledge but also enhances the competitiveness of future professionals in the international labour market.

One of the most engaging segments was the presentation of semester-long study programmes. Students received detailed explanations of the application process, selection criteria, and opportunities offered by Erasmus+ programmes and mobility schemes within inter-university agreements.

Students of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation Studies shared their personal experiences and practical advice:

The speakers gave detailed insights into the specifics of the educational process, accommodation conditions in student residences, and the vibrant leisure activities organised especially for international students.

Another equally engaging segment focused on short-term educational programmes, particularly summer and winter schools. Viktoriia Ustychuk shared her successful experience of participation, noting that seasonal schools are an ideal format for students who wish to gain in-depth knowledge in specialised fields within a short period. She outlined the key benefits of such mobility: learning from leading international lecturers, working in international groups, and significantly expanding professional networks. In addition to academic content, these programmes offer a rich cultural component, enabling participants to better understand the host country and develop intercultural communication skills that are essential for modern professionals.

Special attention was also given to developing leadership skills. Liubov Mahas, a Master’s student of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation Studies and Head of the Student Self-Government of the Faculty of International Relations and Law, spoke about her participation in the prestigious international assembly “Youth Vision Assembly 2025”, held in Amsterdam. Her experience demonstrated how students at our university can influence international trends and contribute to high-level global communication.

For students wishing to gain international experience without travelling abroad, opportunities such as COIL courses (Collaborative Online International Learning) and specialised online platforms were presented. Yana Krachkovska, a student of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation Studies, shared her successful experience of participating in a COIL project together with students from UCLL University of Applied Sciences (Belgium) (https://iro.khmnu.edu.ua/vruchennya-sertyfikativ-uchasnykam-mizhnarodnoyi-onlajn-mobilnosti-v-ucll-university-of-applied-sciences-belgiya/) She emphasised that working in multicultural teams and implementing online initiatives is a crucial step in the development of contemporary education.

In the second part of the meetings, students learned about annual grant opportunities regularly available to Ukrainians. In particular, the following were presented:

  • Fulbright Scholarship Programmes (USA) and Chevening Scholarships (United Kingdom);
  • specialised databases and resources for finding internships and research programmes for Ukrainian students.

The meetings were held in an active dialogue format. Students of Khmelnytskyi National University demonstrated strong interest, asking practical questions about language preparation and the writing of motivation letters.

The International Relations Office continues to support proactive students and invites everyone to follow updates on the official website to stay informed about opportunities for an unforgettable international experience.
