Erasmus+ under martial law: challenges and solutions for Ukrainian universities

Khmelnytskyi National University continues to actively participate in international educational initiatives and cooperation. On March 6, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work Kateryna Skyba and leading specialist of the International Relations Department Anastasiia Zarzhytska took part in the webinar "Features of the implementation of EU Erasmus+ program projects during martial law in Ukraine."

The event, organised by the National Erasmus+ Office in Ukraine with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, brought together coordinators and partners of Erasmus+ projects working in Ukraine and with Ukrainian educational institutions.

 Kateryna Skyba highlighted the importance of international cooperation for Ukrainian universities, especially during martial law, and shared her experience implementing international educational projects at the university.

Webinar participants discussed the key challenges facing the implementation of educational initiatives in the current environment, in particular:

  • ensuring security and financial transfers;
  • official registration of projects in Ukraine;
  • the process of purchasing and delivering equipment;
  • the impact of education reforms on project implementation.

The webinar program was opened by Mykhailo Vynnytskyi, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine. He spoke about education reform, security challenges, and the process of merging higher education institutions. He emphasised the importance of Erasmus+ in implementing changes and invited international partners to Ukraine. Participants then listened to presentations by experts offering practical recommendations for managing Erasmus+ projects under martial law.

Thanks to the active interaction of all stakeholders, the webinar was an important step towards adapting international educational projects to current realities. The organisers also announced further consultations and meetings to help improve coordination and support for Ukrainian educational institutions within the Erasmus+ program.
