Khmelnytskyi National University is playing a key role in the international project U_CAN: Ukraine on the Path to Carbon Neutrality, funded by the Horizon Europe programme. Over the first year of active participation in this initiative focused on sustainable urban development, the university has made significant progress in developing and implementing innovative solutions for adaptive traffic management.
Watch a short video highlighting KhNU’s key achievements during this period:
The project, which runs until April 2028, brings together 23 partners from various countries, including leading European universities, research institutions, and municipalities. Its goal is to demonstrate the effectiveness of adaptive traffic management in reducing CO₂ emissions and improving the environmental situation in participating cities, including Khmelnytskyi.
Among the project's core objectives are supporting Ukrainian cities in developing climate strategies, identifying key sectors for climate change action, sharing best practices with cities leading the way toward climate neutrality, and disseminating knowledge and results to a wider audience.
The U_CAN project is expected to contribute to both climate change mitigation and adaptation in the pilot cities, while also serving as a model for other cities in Ukraine and the EU on the path to carbon neutrality.
Khmelnytskyi National University’s accomplishments in the U_CAN project are proof that through collective effort, knowledge, and determination, we can build a future in which our cities are cleaner and our lives more comfortable. Let these achievements inspire every student and lecturer to actively engage in innovative projects, seek out new solutions, and bring bold ideas to life — for the benefit of our university, our city, and our country!
