From April 23 to 27, 2025, the international Polish-German-Ukrainian ornithological seminars "Birds Around Us" took place in Świnoujście, Poland, as part of the TRIYOU project. Representatives from three countries—Ukraine, Germany, and Poland—participated in the event.
Ukraine was represented by students and lecturers from Khmelnytskyi National University—specifically from the Department of Slavic Philology and the Department of Ecology and Biological Education of the Faculty of Humanities and Pedagogy.

Thirteen students from educational programs such as “Polish Language and Literature, Second Language – English,” "Secondary Education (Biology and Human Health),” and “Ecology” took part in the project. They were joined by Svitlana Voitaliuk, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Slavic Philology; Andrii Diachuk, PhD in Pedagogical Sciences and Associate Professor at the Department of Ecology and Biological Education; and Serhii Skrypnyk, PhD in Pedagogical Sciences and Associate Professor at the Department of Ecology and Biological Education.

The seminar program was rich and diverse, including: a lecture on “Common Bird Species of Ukraine, Poland, and Germany,” discussing the impact of military actions on ecology and migration processes; workshops and practical sessions on bird observation methods, recording bird songs, and maintaining field journals; an ecological quiz, “Birds Around Us”; group work on describing endangered bird species in each participating country; excursions.
All these activities promoted intercultural communication and enhanced proficiency in foreign languages (Polish, English, German, Ukrainian). Participants also gained insights into the culture of each participating country, presenting their cities, universities, and educational initiatives. Participation in competitions involving popular songs performed in various languages further contributed to intercultural integration.

Our students also shared and exchanged their ecological, biological, and philological knowledge. Notably, they organised interactive Kahoot quizzes in three languages (Ukrainian, Polish, and German) for all participants, which were not only entertaining but also creatively reinforced ornithological knowledge. Students also provided translation during joint activities, allowing them to improve their language practice and gain valuable experience in intercultural communication.

The participation of students and lecturers from Khmelnytskyi National University once again confirmed the importance of combining scientific knowledge, practical skills, and language competence within the modern European educational community.
The TRIYOU project fosters the development of ecological awareness, active intercultural communication, and experience exchange among young people from Ukraine, Poland, and Germany.

We would like to note that these seminars were a continuation of the international project «Study of common ornithological species of Ukraine, Poland and Czech Republic»,
We hope to secure a grant and implement a third joint project with our departments in the next academic year.
