On 29 January 2026, Khmelnytskyi National University (KhNU) hosted the online seminar \u201cSustainable Development and Climate Change Management.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was initiated by Professor Valerii Martyniuk, Head of the Energy Efficiency Centre at the Department of Automation, Computer-Integrated Technologies and Robotics at KhNU, who visited Hamburg University of Applied Sciences in November last year as part of a professional development program. The experience gained during the visit and the professional contacts established served as the foundation for organising the international online seminar and for further developing cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting began with an opening speech by KhNU Rector Serhii Matiukh, who emphasised that sustainable development is one of the key strategic priorities of the university and an integral part of its educational and research policy, as well as an important basis for expanding international cooperation and implementing innovative approaches in specialist training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The keynote speaker of the event was Mariia Fedoruk, PhD, a researcher at Hamburg University of Applied Sciences and coordinator of the Ukraine Nature Network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During her presentation, Mariia introduced the activities of Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, particularly the research and transfer centre FTZ-NK (Sustainability & Climate Change Management), outlining the main research areas in sustainable development and climate change management. Special attention was given to the Ukraine Nature Project\u2014an international network aimed at documenting, supporting, and promoting environmental projects in Ukraine, strengthening cooperation between researchers, civil society organisations, and educational institutions, minimising the negative environmental impact of war, and developing approaches for sustainable ecosystem recovery. It is worth noting that KhNU has been a member of this network since 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the meeting, participants focused on pressing issues of environmental security and international scientific cooperation in the context of current global challenges. Particular attention was paid to soil conditions and agricultural development, forest resource conservation, waste management, energy management, and strategies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n

Special attention during the seminar was also given to the Ukraine Nature Project\u2014an international initiative aimed at documenting, supporting, and promoting environmental projects in Ukraine, strengthening cooperation between researchers, civil society organisations, and educational institutions, minimising the negative environmental impact of war, and developing approaches for sustainable ecosystem recovery.<\/p>\n\n\n

Vice-Rector for Academic and Scientific Work Kateryna Skyba presented Khmelnytskyi National University to the partners, outlining its key areas of scientific, educational, and international activities. She emphasised that the university highly values international cooperation and strategic partnerships with foreign higher education institutions and research organisations and is interested in the joint implementation of research, educational, and innovation projects.<\/p>\n\n\n

During the seminar, university representatives actively exchanged experiences in implementing scientific and educational initiatives within international projects, academic networks, and inter-university programs, and discussed opportunities to involve young researchers and students in joint project activities and interdisciplinary research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The seminar became an important step in strengthening KhNU\u2019s international cooperation and expanding professional dialogue on contemporary environmental challenges. Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their mutual interest in further partnership and agreed to implement joint scientific initiatives and practical projects to promote sustainable development and effective climate change management.<\/a><\/a><\/a><\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
